About Us

Who We Are

Clemency Coalition of New York is a coalition of grassroots and advocacy organizations who are aligned around a shared commitment to ending deportations, mass incarceration, and other violence caused by this country’s intersecting immigration and criminal legal systems.

Our Vision

Clemency Coalition of New York demands greater clemency in NY State to end deportations and mass incarceration for our immigrant communities and communities of color. We see the clemency process as a powerful vehicle that can move us towards both short and long term changes by: protecting our immigrant and refugee community members against deportations; reducing prison sentences for our incarcerated community members; and mobilizing our people in demanding safety, justice, and accountability.

Our Values

Families and communities have the right to stay together.

We commit to a pro-Black and anti-racist framework.

We commit to dismantling the colonial framework. Justice must be restorative, not punitive.

We commit to transformational kinship.

Our Strategy

Through the clemency framework, our coalition seeks to end deportations and incarceration by pursuing a multi-pronged strategy that includes:

01

Organizing and educating our communities through clemency clinics, workshops, and trainings.

02

Carrying out strategic communications that shift the narrative from focusing on individuals to focusing instead on the systemic harms and injustices of the immigration and criminal legal systems.

03

Providing community defense through organized individual case campaigns and holistic support for impacted community members and their families.

04

Advancing legislation to increase access and bring greater transparency to New York’s clemency process.
